Andrei Ujică

Andrei Ujică (1951, Timișoara) is a Romanian screenwriter and director. Together with Harun Farocki, he directed Videograms of a Revolution (1992). This essayistic documentary is widely considered as a fundamental work in analysing the relationship between media, revolution and political power. His other works include Out of the Present (1995), The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceaușescu (2010), and TWST / Things We Said Today (2024).

Bucharest, 1989. From the balcony of the People’s House, Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu gives his final public speech, before being cut short by a protesting crowd. Executed four days later, his downfall marks the beginning of a new era. An essayistic documentary that examines how a revolution was mediated through images.
