Sanaz Azari
Sanaz Azari was born in Isfahan (Iran) in 1981. She grew up and lives in Brussels, where she studied photography and stage design at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels de La Cambre. For three years, she also followed intensive theatre classes based on the Stanislavski method. In 2010, she created set designs and urban installations before writing and directing her first documentary, Salaam Isfahan, followed by I comme Iran (2014) and Backstage Action (2018).
Filmmaker Sanaz Azari learns to read and write in Persian, her native tongue. Gradually, the language lessons on Iranian culture turn into a poetic collage that questions the concept of freedom and the meaning of revolution.
